36 weeks! We’re definitely in the home stretch now!
One thing I haven’t talked about much this pregnancy, but were a source of much lamenting in my previous pregnancies, is stretch marks. Some fortunate women don’t get them. But I am not one of those fortunate women!
Maybe it doesn’t bother me so much this time around because after two previous pregnancies, my abdomen is already completely covered with stretch marks. To the point that I can’t even tell if I’ve gotten any new ones, or if the angry red marks weaving all over my belly are just my leftover markers from Little Man and Lil Sis.
If you’re one of those women who never got stretch marks, count yourself lucky. No matter how much weight I lose, or how much I tighten up my muscles and skin in that area, I will still never be able to wear a bikini without it being obvious that I have given birth at least once. And if you’re one of the unlucky like me, know that you’re in good company!
In other news, I’m now in the home stretch! I have approximately 4 more weeks left of this pregnancy, five at the most. And there’s a good possibility this baby could come earlier.
At my last doctor appointment (which was at 35 weeks plus 4 days), my OB checked my cervix after I told her that I have been feeling really crampy lately and woke up that morning with what felt like an intense menstrual cramp (early labor pains can feel like menstrual cramps, so that was specifically why I mentioned it). At not quite 36 weeks, I was dilated to 2.5 cm and 70% effaced!
Now it’s completely possible that I could stay just like that for another three to four weeks, but with this being #3 and the amount of crampiness I’m feeling, I kind of doubt that. I suspect my doctor does too because she told me to take it easy as much as possible for the next week (so no more exercising for me until full term at 37 weeks), instructed Albert not to schedule any out-of-town trips, and advised us that we may want to pick up some diapers over the weekend! I’d like to keep this baby in until at least 37 weeks, but after that all bets are off!
This information sure lit the fire under Albert and I to get our baby prep done. I’ve been working on finishing the bedding for the nursery, and he immediately went home and started putting the crib together. (Slight issue there since we apparently lost some of the parts and I had to order replacements from the manufacturer. Oops. Baby might beat the stabilizer bars here!). I’ve been trying to move slowly and spend as much time sitting or lying down as I reasonably can.
Due date:September 12, 2013
Progress: 36 weeks. 4 weeks (28 days, or less) to go!
How I’m feeling: All right, but crampy, as mentioned earlier. And I have wicked heartburn these days. I’m still having weekly sonograms in addition to the weekly OB appointments, so I pretty much spend my Monday mornings at the doctor.
Weight gain: 40 pounds.
Cravings: Nothing in particular, but still a sweet tooth. And my green smoothies always taste awesome in the morning.
Aversions: Nothing really.
Other symptoms: Just the usual — hip pain, back pain, round ligament pain, heartburn, Braxton Hicks contractions, leg cramps, etc.
Heart rate: 135 at our last appointment.
